Highlands College Half Marathon and 10k

Why We Run.

Ministry is not a sprint; it’s a marathon. It’s not enough for our students to start living out their calling. We want them to sustain a life of eternal impact and finish strong. The half marathon is designed to remind our students when things get hard, that they can complete their race. Here’s how we say it at Highlands College ‚ “If we don’t quit, we win.”

At Highlands College, we come alongside our students to develop the discipline to make tough decisions, the tenacity to overcome adversity, and the humility to build and maintain meaningful relationships. We believe these traits develop the godly character and marathon mentality necessary for long-term success in ministry after graduation and to lead a life of eternal impact. These life lessons encompass the Character Formation pillar of our student’s unique, holistic training curriculum while at Highlands College.

One of the ways we instill Character Formation in our students is through training for and running our annual half marathon and 10k. This year our students will complete their year-long training goal on Saturday, May 7th, as they run together at Railroad Park in Downtown Birmingham.

For the first-time, we are opening this race to our community, and invite you to “Press On.” with Highlands College.

The apostle, Paul, points us to this challenge to overcome and strive for more in the  New Testament letters he wrote to the early church. The truths he shared then apply to our lives now, and we want each runner participating in this year’s half-marathon and 10K to receive these truths as they prepare to join us.

Press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14

Press on, together with Highlands College! We invite you to join the “HC Family” on Saturday, May 7th to run alongside and celebrate our students as they cross the finish line. As we say at Highlands College, “we are better together” and we’d love nothing more than for our community to join together as we persevere.. Conviction isn’t developed on the day of the race, but in the training that a challenge like this requires. That’s why our Traditional Program students have already started training with their peers. Through the training process, they’re learning they can depend on themselves, and on each other – a valuable lesson that will serve them long after graduation.

You’re invited to join the Highlands College family on Saturday, May 7th, for the Half Marathon and 10k! If you’d like to build up character or to support our students in this pivotal moment, click here to register. #HCRuns
