Summary of Responsibilities
The Fitness Director is responsible for cultivating a positive and engaging fitness and recreation environment on campus. This includes overseeing the day to day operations and management of the HC Fit Rec Center and its staff and programming.

Reporting to:
Executive Director of Resident Life

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, vision and oversight on Fitness programming that will promote high-quality student experiences that promote culture, community, and a sense of belonging at HC
  • Provide leadership, oversight, and assist with planning and execution of all Fitness classes and workouts
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Rec Center
  • Maintain high visibility and availability, including representation at Preview Days, recruiting events and new student orientation
  • Work together with the Resident Life and Student Development Department for events and meetings
  • Recruit, train, and develop a team of trainers and students
  • Oversee and manage student attendance for weekly workouts
  • Assist in HC Sports as needed
  • Oversee the maintenance and repairs of fitness equipment
  • Work with First Responders as needed for emergencies and injuries
  • Host weekly meetings with the Fitness team
  • Develop a plan for fitness education for staff and HC students
  • Responsible for Rec Center orders
  • Assisting in interviewing and hiring a team for the Rec Center
  • Working with the Resident Life  to develop a long-term plan for the HC Rec Center

Other Duties:

  • Be actively engaged in ministry at Church of the Highlands and Highlands College by leading small groups
  • Affirm the Statement of Faith and uphold the Core Values and DNA of the College, exemplifying them by word and lifestyle
  • Create a high-touch environment (love, encourage, welcome people)
  • Assist in compiling and revising content for Highlands College Student Handbook
  • Other duties as directed and required

Leadership Requirements:

  • Provide leadership within the Student Development Department and function as direct report to Executive Director of Residence Life
  • Lead and develop teams to effectively reach set goals
  • Oversee students, staff and interns occasionally
  • Sets clear and challenging objectives, inspiring and encouraging high performance in teams and individuals
  • Reviews progress achieved, publicly and privately recognizing achievement
  • Anticipates the possible demands and outcomes of a particular task or situation – plans and prioritizes appropriately

Education & Experience:

  • Education:
    • Associates degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Experience:
    • Experience working in the Fitness Industry
    • Management / Leadership Experience
    • Experience building teams
    • Customer Service
    • Student leadership, student activities, and/or student life experience preferred
    • Ability to handle multiple projects effectively
    • Ability to learn and use student information system software
    • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, written, and organizational skills

Physical Demands

  • Moderate exposure to physical risk
  • Good physical condition is required
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs without assistance
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
